What a token is
A token is a unit of model work, quoted against the standard model — roughly one million tokens per US dollar. A typical question and answer over your own documents costs a few thousand. Heavier models do more thinking per word and draw down the balance faster, so the rate for each is published rather than blended into one flattering number.
