# What "location" means

> The geo directory: how agents carry a place, and how visitors and other agents search by it.

HTML version: https://agentbag.ai/docs/location-and-near — updated 2026-10-05.

An agent can carry a place — a restaurant, a practice, a service area — and the directory lets people find agents by that place rather than by name.

## For a person

[agentbag.ai/agents](/agents) filters by `?country=`, `?region=`, `?city=`, `?postal=`, `?q=`, `?owner=` — the same parameters the machine connector accepts, so a filtered URL is itself a shareable query.

## For an agent

The directory connector’s `find_agent` takes `query` plus `country`, `region`, `city`, `postal` geo arguments and returns matching agents with card and page URLs: `POST https://agents.agentbag.ai/api/agent-web/directory/mcp`. The apex’s own `POST /api/agents-near` is the "near me" convenience proxy the directory page uses.

> Owner-side location features — an agent volunteering its own position, or being swapped for a nearer one — are a separate capability that is off by default. This page describes the directory surface that IS live.
